Hey Reader ,

I did the thing I talked about last month —the photoshoot.

It went great and Sarah made it fun, like hanging out with a friend. Thanks for for all your well wishes and the good photo shoot vibes.

Now, let's talk about your website and how you can improve it with two easy fixes. Both related to how you format your text.

1 - Don't center text that's longer than 3 lines. Instead, use left alignment.

How this helps the reader:

↳ Reduces cognitive load, making the page easier to read.

Centered text forces our brains to have to find the beginning of every new line; the longer the text, the more annoying it feels.

2 - Don't let your text go all the way from the left to the right edge of the screen.

Instead, use a narrower line width. No matter how wide you stretch your browser, the text box should max out somewhere near 700 pixels.

How this helps the reader:

↳ Makes the page easier to read, so prospects stay on the page longer.

A few visual examples to demonstrate this.

Which is easier to read? I'm betting the 2nd one on both examples.

EXAMPLE 1:

EXAMPLE 2:

You may not be a designer but you instinctively recognize professional or amateur when visiting a website.

These two easy fixes will help your website look more professional.

Writing tip ✍️

From the classic, "Elements of Style", by Strunk & White:

Ask yourself — would I say "firstly"?

Probably not.

❌ Firstly, let me ...
❌ Secondly, take note of ...

✅ First, let me ...
✅ Second, take note of ...

Unless you're prepared to begin with firstly and defend it (which will be difficult) and torture Professor Strunk in his grave, don't prettify numbers with -ly.

Words not used orally are seldom the ones to put on your website.

The almond trees started blooming a few weeks ago. These trees always bloom the first in Israel and are a wonderful reminder that the winter is about to come to an end.

Thank you, almond tree, for being the first reminder that dark, cold times don't last forever.

May spring bring warmth and new growth to you personally and in your business ventures.

Thanks for reading. Until next month. 👋
